Golden Bay

Just a 50-minute drive from the Chalets over the Takaka hill, Golden Bay is the perfect place to take a day trip and experience even more of the beauty that the Tasman region has to offer. With endless beaches to relax on, gorgeous walks and fun activities to do, Golden Bay is not to be missed. We recommend taking a trip to Farewell Spit if you have the time!
Te Waikoropupu Springs
Te Waikoropupu Springs, more commonly referred to as “Pupu Springs”, is known for the clarity of its' water, and the volume of water it produces, which is roughly 14,000 litres of water every second! A spiritually sacred place for Maori, the springs are looked after by the Department of Conservation, and are a wonderful place to visit and see some of the clearest water in the world.

Tata Beach
Known for its' big waves and deep water, Tata beach is an absolute must for anyone who loves a good swim in the sea! The beach slopes on an angle, which means you only have to walk a couple of metres in to the sea and you're waist high in gorgeous blue water. And, in the right wind, the waves at Tata make for endless hours of fun. If swimming isn't your thing, the golden sand is perfect to relax on with a good book.

Wainui Falls
One of the largest and most accessible waterfalls in the Golden Bay area, a walk to Wainui Falls is the perfect outing for the whole family. An easy trek through amazing native greenery, this walk follows the Wainui river to the waterfall. Follow the sound of rushing water, and once you reach the famous swing bridge, you know you are close to the waterfall! It is one of our favourite walks, and we think it will be yours too!
